Sophie and Laurence were yet another couple whose original wedding plans had been affected by Covid. They made the decision to postpone their celebration from July to October to give them a little more time for things to get back to “normal” and, although things still aren’t normal now, thankfully their wedding day wasn’t affected by any restrictions.

Their ceremony was due to take place in the village church of Donhead St Mary but first I headed to Sophie’s Aunt and Uncles house. The reception was to take place in a marquee on their lawn overlooking the picturesque valley and lake beyond - an ideal setting for any wedding!

Sophie and Laurence were both getting ready at the house, with Sophie and her Bridesmaids tucked away upstairs whilst Laurence and his Groomsmen took over the Dining Room. After the buttonholes had been applied, sporrans had been adjusted and a shot of Whisky had been consumed, I followed Laurence on to the church to photograph the guests arriving.

The church was full to capacity with all of their friends and relatives - such a lovely sight after the cap on guest numbers at weddings had been lifted. Sophie arrived a little later and made her entrance to a song from the musical “Top Hat” (if I remember correctly!).

After a beautiful ceremony, Sophie and Laurence made their exit via an extensive confetti tunnel and headed back to the house to welcome their guests.

As I said, it really was an idyllic setting for a reception. The guests were able to enjoy their drinks and canapés whilst taking in the beautiful views. Lawn games were provided to keep the guests entertained before one of their friends took up his Bagpipes to pipe them all into the marquee for the wedding breakfast.

After some amusing speeches (including an inventive speech by the Best Man involving “Ships”) it was time for the evening party. Sophie and Laurence kicked off the evening with an EPIC choreographed first dance after which the marquee erupted with cheers and applause! It was then time for the Ceilidh. I love a Ceilidh and it was the perfect fun ending to a fun-filled day. In fact, I shouldn’t say that it was the end as their celebrations were due to spill across the entire weekend with a whole day of fun activities and games planned for the next day!
