Dulcie and Sam - Hamswell House

Hamswell House was a new venue for me so when Dulcie and Sam got in touch to ask if I would like to shoot their wedding there, I jumped at the chance.

A few weeks before the wedding, I met up with Dulcie and Sam to take a look around and chat logistics. It’s such a beautiful place that my excitement levels increased 10 fold!

The day itself was to be a relaxed, informal event full of fun and laughter. Dulcie and Sam had actually tied the knot earlier in the day during their official ceremony in Bath so I was asked to arrive in good time to take photos of the guests arriving before Dulcie and Sam made their appearance. Thankfully, I arrived 20 minutes early (to ensure that I had time to park and scope out where everything would be taking place) because Dulcie and Sam were far too excited to delay their celebration any longer and decided to kick off proceedings half an hour early!

Their outdoor ceremony took place in front of the picturesque Orangery where their guests gathered with drinks in hand to witness Dulcie and her Dad walk down the aisle to where a beaming Sam was waiting! After the emotional ceremony, their guests gathered in front of the house to enjoy even more drinks, play lawn games and take in the amazing views over the beautiful Bath countryside.

It was such an amazing day which felt really very intimate. All of Dulcie and Sam’s guests were friendly and welcoming and I had the best group of Bridesmaids/men who helped to corral the guests for the formal photos and who were constantly checking to see if I was ok or if I needed anything.

The speeches were emotional, amusing and were finished off with the appearance of a life-size cardboard cut-out of the Groom as well as tequila shots for all of the guests!

It was then that the rain started!

After holding off for the entire day, even making way for some bright sunny spells during the drinks reception, the rain decided to make an appearance. And BOY was that a lot of rain! It rained and it rained and it rained…that is, of course, until the start of the evening reception where there was a brief pause when Dulcie and Sam managed to get outside with all of their guests and lead them all back into the marquee for the first dance. Talk about good timing!

Below you will find a small selection of photos from the day. To view the full gallery, please head here (the password can be obtained from Dulcie or Sam).
