Ruth and Pat - Stowell Park
I’ve known Ruth for a few years now - I first met her when she attended one of my photowalks around Bath. So when she got in touch to ask whether I would be available to photograph her wedding, I happily said “yes”! Having gotten to know Pat over the last few months I realised that he is also very interested in photography so the pressure was definitely on!
Thankfully, I couldn’t have asked for a better location! And it just so happened to be on the Estate where Pat works.
The wedding was to take place in the picturesque village of Yanworth right in the heart of the Cotswolds - the ceremony in the tiny Church followed by a reception in the Hunting Lodge next door. Ruth and Pat had very kindly showed me around a few months (or maybe it was even a year!) in advance so I knew where everything was taking place.
On the day itself, I met up with Ruth at her hair and makeup appointment early in the morning after which we headed back to the hotel for the final preparations and then finally headed on to Yanworth where we were to be based for the rest of the day.
From the moment Ruth arrived at the Church it was all very emotional. Ruth’s family had arrived from far and wide (her Mum had flown in specifically from South Africa and had needed to Quarantine en route to ensure that she could attend) and I could tell that it was going to be a really special day tinged with both happiness and sadness owing to the people that were missing.
Ruth and Pat made sure to make the day truly unique and very much “them” with Ruth making many of the decorations herself and including lots of other personal touches. We also made sure we made reference to Pat’s work during the couples photos as Pat had scoped out some beautiful locations around the Estate for us to use.
All in all in was a wonderful day where I felt truly welcomed and included. I felt really privileged that they had chosen me to document their special day. A few moments definitely worth noting are the confetti rice throw which can only really be described as a blizzard, the EPIC grazing table which kept me going all evening, and the sparkler run which, I have to say, was very well organised even if many of the guests were too merry at that point to take part!
